Information about our Postponed Conference

In view of the global situation regarding Covid-19, we decided to postpone our conference, originally scheduled for 22-24 April 2020, to 28-30 April 2021. We are all very much hoping that we will be able to meet in person in Madrid in April 2021 and are confident to be able to hold an even more exciting conference. We are also however planning for some remote delivery and attendance where necessary. More details about this will be announced at a later date.

The supplementary call for abstracts is now open and will remain open until the end of September 2020. We look forward to receiving your submissions!

ALTE's 7th International Conference

Safeguarding the Future of Multilingual Assessment

Madrid, Spain

28-30 April 2021

ALTE is delighted to work with its member Instituto Cervantes to run and host the 7th International Conference. Please visit our sponsors page to learn more about Instituto Cervantes and find out more about our sponsors for the event, to whom we are extremely grateful for their support.

The conference will be held at the Novotel Madrid Center hotel, in Madrid's centrally located Salamanca district, just ten minutes' walk from El Retiro Park.

Safeguarding the Future of Multilingual Assessment

ALTE's mission is to set standards of language tests and assessment, sustain diversity of languages (both spoken and signed) through our commitment to multilingualism, and maximise impact of language teaching, testing and assessment in Europe and beyond. Our seventh international conference considers how we can safeguard fair, valid and ethical practices in the light of new developments and innovations in our multilingual field.

Plenaries, paper presentations, workshops and posters will be focused around the four key strands of the conference:

  • Defining the Construct of Multilingualism in Language Assessment
  • Innovations in Language Assessment
  • Fair and Valid Language Testing and Assessment
  • Considerations of Ethics and Justice in the Multilingual Context of Assessment

An outline of the conference programme is now available to help plan your time in Madrid. A more detailed programme will be ready in February 2021.

The International Conference will once again host the LAMI (Language Assessment for Migration and Integration) Forum, a session devoted to this important and timely area of our field.

While the main conference language is English, some paper presentations and workshops will be given in Spanish, French, German and Italian too.

Plenary sessions and the LAMI Forum will be simultaneously interpreted into both Spanish and International Sign Language. Other sessions will be interpreted into International Sign Language on request.

ALTE - the Association of Language Testers in Europe is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered in England, charity number 1184799.
